LES CINOCHES IN PARIS

Les Cinoches is a restaurant in Saint Germain de Pres, located in a former cinema. On one wall there’s a big tv screen playing an old black and white movie while you enjoy the modern French food. The wines are very good and so is the price/quality. This is a place where it’s about good food and cozyness. Nothing pretentious.

1 rue de Conde, 75006 Paris, 0143541821.

LITTLE OTIK IN BERLIN

In the lovely Graefestrasse in Kreuzberg emerged last summer a little gem of a restaurant, named Little Otik. It is run bij two men who moved here from New York, which results in a perfect blend of Berlin honesty and American hospitality. Wether you sit down at one of the long wooden tables or have your dinner at the bar, the subtle lightning and classy rustic interior makes you feel at home.

The appetisers such as brown sugar roasted chili almonds and a simple but oh so delicious pickle plate are setting the standard for the rest of evening. Go for a selection of their vegetables or perfectly cooked meat and fish dishes, either way you won't be disappointed; the food is absolutely amazing. With an extensive wine list and mouth watering desserts, this is by far my favorite restaurant in Berlin.

RIJSEL IN AMSTERDAM

Finally Amsterdam has a cool and hip rotisserie restaurant. It serves good traditional bistro style food. Poulet au Estragon with a green salad and delicious potatoes baked in goose fat. Also the lentille salad and sauccison are terrific!

This is all set in an old school building with an interior of former school tables and chairs. Although this might sound cheap it's not, on the contrary it adds to a very lively environment.

Definitely something you have to check out when you are in Amsterdam.

ALBATROSS BAR IN SHINJUKU

In a big city as Tokyo, it can be difficult to find a place where all the cool kids go as any hotspot could be there one day and gone the next. However the Albatross Bar in Shinjuku has been around for quite some time.

The Albatross Bar is located in Omoide Yokocho very near Shinjuku station. You go through narrow streets of Omoide Yokocho that feel like you’re in a Japanese filmset with all the hustle and bustle that you would expect. Waiters and teriyaki chefs are tempting you with their food, so to find this cool and kitchy bar between the yakitori stalls was quite surprising.

The Albatross Bar is one the smallest bars in the world. When you enter you can either sit at the bar or take the tiny stairs at the back to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd floor. If you decide to sit on the 1st floor, you can give your order to the waiter by calling out your order through the hole in the floor which is right above the bartender. It is quite funny when you sit at the bar to see a head coming from the ceiling ordering some cocktails. If you’re on the 2nd floor you have to walk back to the 1st floor. However if you decide to sit on the roof on the 3rd floor, you have to call (they give you a businesscard with their phonenumber!). They make really good cocktails but you can always opt for a birru (beer).
