ROOM BEIJING

Like many other upscale places in China, Room Beijing is located in a US or European hotel chain, this time round the Park Hyatt. Vibrant colours, playful design and one of the strangest bathrooms I have ever seen. If you manage to find it first…

The bar serves excellent cocktails, especially the mojito. And then the food. Huge platters of seafood, assorted cuts of ham, with main dishes consisting of perfectly cooked codfish, gigantic cuts of prime beef and a 36 hour (really?) braised shank of lamb so tender they should serve it with a spoon.

For desert, do not miss the fruit tree. Yep, a 3 foot high aluminium tree with loads of chunks of exotic fruits.

Wine list is extensive and good, service top notch, and there´s a dj playing funky tunes, luckily at a decent volume.

If you´re with a group, try to snatch up one of the 3 large round tables. It comes with a handy spinning center to pass those great dishes around.

It doesn’t come cheap if you add the cocktails and wine, but for a chique and trendy dining experience, it´s well worth those kuais!

D-LOUNGE IN BEIJING

Industrial meets chic. Set back in a dark alleyway in Sanlitun, this place, established 2 years ago, is well worth finding the entrance of. During the day it´s an art place, at night it opens its doors to the well dressed. Inside, 50s movies are projected on huge brick walls, and the sleek yet subtle design gives the place a truly loungy air, reminiscing a post-war New York joint. Comfy sofas, upbeat electronic tunes and an extensive cocktail list add to the conception that this is arguably one of the best bars in Beijing.

CAPITAL M IN BEIJNG

Tired of walking through the Forbidden City with literally 200,000 Chinese? Capital M is the place to kick back and get yourself a well deserved appetizer. Old faded colonial elegance with a modern twist, it overlooks Qianmen Tower and part of Tiananmen Square. Not an emperor in sight, but if you snatch up a table near the fireplace and order a Sichuan Bloody Mary, you may start feeling like one. The restaurant serves modern European cuisine and does great lunch and brunch packages on weekends, around 25 EUR for 3 course menu, including a cocktail. It also has a venue on Shanghai's Bund. Will have to check that one out I gues. No.2 Qianmen Street, Pedestrian Area, Bejing China 010-67022727
