In a big city as Tokyo, it can be difficult to find a place where all the cool kids go as any hotspot could be there one day and gone the next. However the Albatross Bar in Shinjuku has been around for quite some time.
The Albatross Bar is located in Omoide Yokocho very near Shinjuku station. You go through narrow streets of Omoide Yokocho that feel like you’re in a Japanese filmset with all the hustle and bustle that you would expect. Waiters and teriyaki chefs are tempting you with their food, so to find this cool and kitchy bar between the yakitori stalls was quite surprising.
The Albatross Bar is one the smallest bars in the world. When you enter you can either sit at the bar or take the tiny stairs at the back to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd floor. If you decide to sit on the 1st floor, you can give your order to the waiter by calling out your order through the hole in the floor which is right above the bartender. It is quite funny when you sit at the bar to see a head coming from the ceiling ordering some cocktails. If you’re on the 2nd floor you have to walk back to the 1st floor. However if you decide to sit on the roof on the 3rd floor, you have to call (they give you a businesscard with their phonenumber!). They make really good cocktails but you can always opt for a birru (beer).
