THE DOCK KITCHEN IN LONDON

During a weekend in London, visiting a friend, we were invited to join a group of other friends who had booked The Dock Kitchen two weeks in advance.  I had never heard of this venue before. The location is not really a place where you would look for a restaurant so far from the other nice places, but it’s only a 10-minute car drive from the heart of Notting Hill. When you arrive you see an amazing piece of architecture; refurbished dock warehouses with a modern pond in front of them. But despite the raw industrial exterior, the owners managed to give the restaurant a warm feel.

Stevie Parl is an award winning chef, known from the river café, Moro and Petersham Nurseries. He started at the Docks with a pop up restaurant that was so successful, that he now permanently cooks here. The menu constantly changes and, like at his former restaurants, Parl uses the only the best produce.

We started out with a mix of some great starters. The cauliflower and ricotta balls where definitely my favorite. I would come back for these anytime. So fresh and tasteful!  As a main course I had the chicken in walnut sauce. So juicy and a perfect a sauce. We ordered many bottles of a Uvaggio, Nebbiolo Vespolino 2007. A delicious red wine. Damn it was good! Unfortunately, we had no time for dessert but I wouldn’t mind coming back for that. The Dock Kitchen. Portobello Docks, 344/342 Ladbroke Grove, Kensal Road W10 5BU

THE EAGLE

It's been around for close to 20 years, so this place -- the original gastropub -- is not exactly a secret, but it still serves food to die for! Every day brings a new menu based on what the market provides, so beyond finding a seat, your biggest problem will be deciding what to have.
It's by no means in a central location, so it might be a good idea to go for lunch. Just make sure you make it a late one, as you don't want to get caught behind all the local office workers lining up.

THE PRINCESS OF SHOREDITCH

Right around the corner from the Hoxton hotel, this much-lauded gastropub is a must-visit. Gorgeously decorated with high ceilings, this gem of a place has the hearty food you crave. They've got a delicious Sunday roast, but it's worth a visit any day of the week.

THE HOXTON

The Hoxton Urban Lodge is more or less the perfect hotel for a stay in London. They focused on the essentials and they got them right. Features include efficient and great rooms with plenty of space in the bathrooms, cool design, and a free, simple breakfast. The lobby has a great bar and restaurant and turns into a happening place every evening. The best part? It's pretty damn cheap for London! You can't go wrong with this place!
